How long before a trip / vacation to the Philippines do you start packing?

Let's say you already have your ticket several months before. I have a friend who had his suitcase partially packed with gifts for his family FOUR months before his departure date. He had his bags full and somewhat over his baggage weight allowance TWO weeks before. By the time he got to the airport, he had to pay for 15 kilograms of excess baggage beyond his 32 kg allowance?

Plus I know a lot of Filipinos who also pack early and they tell me that it would depend on how long they've been gone. The longer it is since you've last travelled, the earlier you want pack. Do you agree?

I do it around 3 days before. I was done Sunday and I can't wait to leave tomorrow.
